Professional Development for teachers

theartdept provides a range of hands-on professional development workshops to support teachers delivering the New Zealand Curriculum. Whether in your school or off-site, with individual staff or school clusters, during school time or after school, we can negotiate a PD option to suit you and your PD budget.

theartdept can come to you and work with teachers and children in classrooms, or with staff in after-school workshops to provide an in-depth and up-to-date curriculum-based art experience. We are open to tailoring the workshops to your needs.

We can work with schools and Early Childhood providers in Otago and Southland or further afield with travel costs included.

After school workshops / in-class programmes
theartdept offers customised after school workshops for teachers, and / or we can work alongside teachers with children in classrooms, featuring in-depth and up-to-date curriculum-based art experiences.

These practical hands-on workshops can be tailored to your needs. Examples of workshops include:
  • Painting programmes that can be on-going in your classroom and can be applied to a variety of contexts.
  • Printmaking without a press: printmaking that explores colour and shape and can involve other media.
  • Using Artists as an integral part of your art programme: exploring the CI and UC strands of the curriculum in a practical and child friendly way. Links with literacy are also explored.
  • Draw, Draw, Draw! Drawing to develop ideas and explore visual thinking using a surprising variety of ways to draw.
  • Artists are everywhere: Pamela Brown and Kerry Mackay as practising artists share their artwork and ways of working and help develop teaching programmes in response to this.
